Evaluation

Hello dear readers, this is going to be the evaluation of the whole media film production my group and i have produced. In this evaluation i am going to be assessing and manipulation information i have been given and what of course i think of my own opening sequence. Being the first time i made any type of movie i faced problems, but will also be able to evaluate the positive outcomes that came from this exercise. Below, answering 8 questions all this information shall be written.

QUESTION 1.
QUESTION 2.

Representation of our own characters in the opening sequence gave off a certain social group. Or at least who it was meant to be aimed at, our age range was originally 15+, but sometimes that idea doesn't go according to plan once the film is shot, in our case it did and we thought the concept of the thriller was designed for young people, teenagers mostly because they would have to understand the idea. The age range would not go very high, because it is like a sort of chick flick thriller when seen in general. What would give this idea is the concept of make up, hair, and clothing.

It does represent the teenage age era of the years, their main interests, i do realize how stereotypical i sound, but to produce a movie that people understand at first and also the story line has to be clear and adaptable to peoples minds. Other films that can associate to our film are movies on which, horror is the theme but the actors are glammed up and beauty is there objective. This was very popular of the 40's, 50's scene where the coiffed hair and pin up expressions were great aspirations.

1940's example of beauty and thriller
This is an excellent example of film that i could have been influenced from, in itself it shows suspense and recreation from the model woman from those ages.

QUESTION 3. 4.

Keeping in consideration that our film was a very low budget, home produced thriller opening, we should keep in mind the institutions that would accept screening of it would be very low maintenance. We couldn't obviously choose a massive company such as Hammer Productions to showcase our film, or even show an interest in it because they deal with such big names in the industry, such as the 60's to 70's movies: The Phantom of the Opera, eight Dracula films, six sequels of Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, etc. This company deals only with horror and Gothic thrillers, which i think would be suitable if were to choose an appropriate company to showcase us. But because thinking realistic is the obvious option, we would have to link our movie around such places like the Internet, or private screenings at independent company cinemas.

A cinema that i have in mind that only screens small names in the industry is the Prince Charles Cinema in London's main centre Leicester square, the ticket prices range from £1.50 to £10.00. The cinema takes the pride to showcase unknown movies but still of interest to the public. An example of a movie that is being showcased now is called Meat Grinder, about a noodle stool worker who uses slaughtered people in her famous noodles. This is of course a valid option to compare to our movie where the girl slaughters people but for a different reason of course. The editing of the film is very much like what we were hoping to achieve, lots of match cutting of scenes into each other, telling a story but also showing its opposite side.

Whilst researching more into the film and how it is broad casted into the film industry i found another source, of which i thought would be an excellent way to set up our own movie into the world. Film Festivals. This particular one, who has a partnership with Prince Charles cinema, is called the Terracotta Film Festival, which is an independent set up that shows around London a variation of small interesting films. They are mainly shot with Japanese characters and story lines but subtitles and a range of interest in London, allows them to have success in small minorities through out the English City.
Another 2 cinemas which are different in this aspect that they broadcast million dollar company films as well as small unknown title films is Genesis cinema and Rich Mix, located in the heart of east London, Genesis and Rich Mix are open to small films from time to time. This does provide a broader side of movie interest in the area. Rich Mix also sponsors in the East London Film Festival which over a period of days entertains people of all ages, races and interests.
I hadn't realized how many film festivals were available in the area, and how these are perfect opportunities to enter own production films if need be.
Another way to help our movie trailer enter into the media world is by one of the largest elements out there. The Internet! The Internet has now thousands of sites which uploading can be done in a matter of minutes, this would then mean that your video can be viewed by anyone out there in the range of the world. Sometimes such sites can cost, but others such as YouTube and this very site: Blogger, are completely free, as seeing as our film didn't cost more than £10 to produce we would like to keep it that way.
Another way to spread this thriller opening is through the easier option of friends and family. Having our film screened at an Angel Cinema, was enough to allow our peers and teachers see our work. When we receive hard copies of our movie, we can go on to show other friends and definitely family. If lucky, a film related relative who may work in this sort of industry and agrees to the quality of the film, then it can be taken elsewhere. Possibilities are endless.
Personally i think if our film was to enter any form of media labels, it would be an independent production, simply because the storyline isn't as developed as it could be. If i was a producer, i would also find more interest in showcasing my film for a smaller quantity of people who are really interested in watching my film instead of a larger audience, who are going to the cinema because they have nothing to do. To get the film out there would take time and patience, and sending copies to various cinema labels, film festivals and independent companies would be a start. This would guarantee various people being able to see your film. Advertising is very important because it gets seen, and this is a way to maximise awareness of it. This could be acheived by newspapers, billboards (if this can be afforded), flyers, posters, internet advertising, etc.

QUESTION 5.

The target audience for our movie can be very broad as I've noticed, it doesn't automatically be generated for girls but also boy teenage boys too. This is because it has a storyline, not a chick flick sort of setting entirely. I did decide to base my enquiry about the quality of our movie on a girl.

Ruth, 17 is an aspiring artist who studies the topic as well as sciences and history at college. The contents of her bag show her eccentricity and diversity level she would enjoy. She may not be a perfect candidate for the film, because of her low level of film watching. She loves artistic aspect of things, going to many art exhibitions, concerts and craft fairs in her spare time. She hopes to enter university doing an art degree and be able to continue her life in a free spirited manner.
QUESTION 6.
QUESTION 7.

Looking back at my first videos, the preliminary ones that gave me some practice into the art of filming with a topic; they did make me realize the way i could have performed things or done things like i did them in the practice movies. From the two small movies i had filmed, i did really enjoy the outcome of one, which was the card game. I thought the editing was superb; much better than our final piece. I also think the shots were great because of the lighting, it was direct, powerful and effective. I wish we had maintained this level of accuracy for our final piece. What i can say negatively is about the second practice film we shot, i thought it was all wrong. The composition of the shots, the area it was filmed it, how unprofessional the sound was. It was definitely low quality compared to our final piece.

From doing this whole project i have definitely mastered the basic skills of Final Cut Pro, it just seemed like a whole new barrier i wouldn't be able to master because of its complexity, but with guidance from my group and getting things wrong so I'd have to try another way of getting round problems. This enabled me to learn appropriately how to do certain things and the reasoning behind them; such as the rendering. I won't deny i would probably need some help again if i was to try to create another piece of work, but i guess my field was more of filming.
For the preliminary work, i was filming one of the small clips, the card game i thought did have excellent shots. This could of been because of more accurate judgement at the time, or because there was no real threat of an imposing deadline, but as I've mentioned i thought this small production was definitely good. Coming into the real clip i also did a majority of the filming, and seeing it afterwards made me realize a lot of focal points that i could have improved at, especially the quality of light and the focusing of the lens.
Below are two clips of our final preliminary videos.
QUESTION 8.
A great way to get feedback is to interview people who have recently seen your film, it would be effective if they had seen it a few times so they could pick up small detail in negative aspects as well as good things. They were in general very positive, but i think more girls in particular should have been interviewed seeing as they were the target group. Male speculation is obviously appreciated, especially if they liked it, it would have meant that our film could be designated at a broad social group/s.

Here is another form of feedback, in class when our set groups got to view our movie, the had to upload written feedback and using a website, i was able to make a Wordle which is a bunch of words and the ones that are most frequently written will come up in larger font. The words which seem to come in more are:

good, girls, psycho, scene, thriller, editing,

This can be an insight into what people thought of our film. Obviously the point was gotten across about a psycho girl, or that the film was aimed at girls? It is quite hard to dicifer what people are trying to say by one word or two. Editing also came up, i would consider this to mean we have to work on our editing which i would have to agree on. I would consider thriller coming up to be a positive aspect, meaning that our target was met, of originally creating a thriller.
