EVALUATION

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop of challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In the 1st scene we are shown a long shot on an unclear setting with a lot of darkness which makes the viewer realise that this is a thriller as everything is unclear and strange. The first title is shown on the left hand side in white text which is a clear contrast between light and dark and these tones make the mood eery.
In our first scene however, we are shown a medium pan of our main characters vanity dresser with her perfumes laid out perfectly. The lighting was edited to make the scene seem very well lit which reveals to the audience that the character is obsessive and glamorous.

In the second scene we are shown a medium shot on the same setting but the lighting makes an object in the scene more clear and puts the other out of focus which allows the viewer to then change their focal point. The next title is shown in the center which reveals that this person is very important or famous.
In our second scene, we see a cross transition from the perfumes to the lipsticks laid out on her dresser which pans across at a medium level again with the same lighting but the cross transition looks strange revealing that our character is has a distorted mind.

In the third scene we are given another medium close up on an object which is more focused yet the background is fuzzy revealing to the viewers that whatever 'it' is is very mysterious and strange which makes them more inclined to watch it.
In our third scene we are given another cross transition to the next pan of our characters nail varnishes the colours are edited to make them more vibrant and appealing.

In the fourth scene we are shown a medium close up. There is a lot more light given off in the center and the object is silhouetted but you can not clearly see what it actually is keeping the audience on their toes by raising questions for them.In the top left corner a title is shown in white text creating a contrast against the dark background.
In our fourth scene the audience is shown a close up on our main character painting her nails. Our character does this so precise and perfectly our audience realises she must be a bit obsessive compulsive in having things perfect and therefore slighty derailed.

In the fifth scene the audience is shown a close up of the setting. There is similar lighting to the fourth as it is well lit in the center and quite light and the title is also placed on the left showing
that this person is probably the same rank as the person shown in the fourth.
In our fifth scene we are shown a pan of dolls and there are lots of them all lined up. This once again reveals to the audience that our character needs perfection in looks as dolls always look perfect as most of them shown are porcelain, she wants to be like one. The lighting again looks glamorous and eery.
In the sixth scene we are shown a close up and the audience is shown an unclear image with a lot of light directed just of center the shadows create a lot of mystery and keep the audience interested. In our sixth scene we cut to another pan of her other dolls and see a medium shot of her picking up one of the dolls. The audience are lead to believe that this is what she thinks to be perfection. This makes our audience worried for who she may meet as if they have certain features of this doll anything could happen.

In the seventh scene we are shown a medium shot of a dark setting with lots of silhouettes of objects some very rigid and some more soft, the title appears in between these objects. These keep the audience interested as the objects are unclear once again raising mystery and keeping people interested.
In our seventh scene the audience is shown a medium close up of our character stroking the doll. This reveals that this is her favourite one as it shows perfection according to her which is what her desire is.

In the eighth scene the audience are shown a medium shot of a strange setting that is lit in the center that has a red filter. The colour red makes the audience think of anger/passion/blood which makes it seem that whatever it is has many different personalities making it scary.
In our eighth scene we are shown a medium close up of our main characters feet and the doll dropping to the floor in pieces. This destruction reveals our character to be mental and wanting to ruin anything more perfect than she is and this makes our audience worried about any other characters who may appear.

In the ninth scene we are given a medium close up of "the thing's" hand which is lit reasonably well on the right but still has a smoky/blurry offset giving the hand a strange shadow. The hand also looks inhuman keeping the audience intrigued on what may happen and what it is. The title is shown a lot larger in white in the bottom right hand corner so that the audience focuses on both the title and the image shown.
In our ninth scene the audience is shown a close up on the dolls head. There is a red tint to the scene leading the audience to believe that our main character will destroy anyone 'perfect' as this colour has a semantic field of anger and blood.
Overall, my groups thriller title sequence although raises mystery like "The Thing" it also shows what is happening before and after so its clear about what could happen. Some of the shots and effects we used are also similar to "The Thing.

2)How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In this still from Se7en we are shown a close up of the main character writing in code.We are also given a title on the top right corner in white which contrasts to the dark background. There were a lot of cuts to show to the audience that time is passing rather quickly which is similar to our scene.

Our main protagonist is Sam and she plays the character of a very vain girl who kills others who she believes to be prettier than her in one way or another.
In this still our audience is shown a close up of our main characters lips and her applying her lipstick we sped this scene up to reveal that she is unbalanced as she does things so perfectly yet so quickly. This lipstick is also shown in another scene when she kills another character which we were inspired by in the film Se7en.

In this still from Se7en we see a close up of what we believe to be the main characters hand cutting skin off his own thumb which implies to the audience that this character (probably the main) is mental and unbalanced making the audience fearful of who may come across this person which is what we wanted to achieve with our title sequence.

In this still our audience is shown a over the shoulder shot close up of our main character cutting one of our other characters hair. The fact that this character is crying and rocking in this scene reveals that she is a victim of our mass murderer. Our scene is different to Se7ens in the respect that our character is harming someone else rather than harming themself so we still get that fear created for audience to experience.
Therefore the social group that is most represented throughout our thriller title sequence is vain teenage girls who care too much about their looks.

3 & 4) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/address your audience?

This persons work is a spoof based on Miley Cyrus's song 7 Things. The song 7 things is very well populated after being in the charts for a few weeks and as Miley Cyrus has a large fanbase anyway for being an actress and singer.
As this video has been posted onto youtube it can be viewed by anyone. As a result of this when someone types in 7 Things any video posted on this site with the words 7 things comes up in a list once they have searched it and therefore people are given a choice of what they choose to click upon.
If a person clicks on this link by mistake they view this video rather than what they were probably looking for and if they enjoy it they can rate it, comment on it and suggest it to friends. They can suggest this video to friends on social networking sites such as facebook and once they have posted this all of their friends on facebook can view this link and once again if it is liked it can be recommending it on which raises the views that this video has making it more popular.
Therefore, the internet has been used to this persons advantage when it comes to making it known world wide.

5)Who would be the audience for your media product?

Alice ,22, currently working in sales in River Island aspires to become a budding fashion designer. As a youth she had a lazy eye and was therefore picked on at school. She is always prepared with these pieces especially her prescription sunglasses which are as she calls statement and stylish yet essential. She makes sure she can always look cool and collected even when very insecure with her make up, mirror to keep her face conditioned and hair brush to keep her hair tame.

6) What have you learned about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Final Cut Pro enabled us to organise our clips into an order which flowed well and to make them into suitable lengths allowing a pace to be created.
Final Cut Pro also allowed us to add filters and transitions to make our piece have a more eery effect which reflects our characters mind set.

Soundtrack Pro allowed us to find music clips suitable for certain shots in our sequence. When we played them together we could see what clips needed more emphasis and were able to edit this and create suspense.

LiveType allowed us to input titles onto our sequence in certain areas on scenes to make it more professional.

Youtube enabled us to watch the title sequence to Se7en which influenced us when it came to editing. In this particular scene we liked the transition as it gives an eery effect which is what we wanted to capture in our sequence.
Overall, these programmes and websites helped us a huge amount and made our sequence what it is.

Overall, these programmes and websites helped us a huge amount and made our sequence what it is.

7)Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

This clip is from our preliminary task.As you can see this clip is not as good as it could have been as the background noise ruins the effect that we were trying to capture. Also the camera is shaky at points when it shouldn't be. The lighting was also terrible but due to the location the lights needed to be on but later on in our preliminary you will notice our lighting change which ruins the film. So it's fair to say that when we first began our skills weren't great in the respect that we didn't realise that the lighting would ruin our film until it came to editing, however, I do believe that some shots were executed well just not this one.

This clip is from our thriller. As you can see our skills have vastly improved as the sound is relevant as our location was properly planned. The lighting changes only when the location changes so there are no continuity errors here. Also, the framing is good and the camera is not shaky so we clearly learned from our earlier mistakes and properly planned our real thriller title sequence.

This close up although is good and creates a good effect as everything comes back into focus as the door opens the framing could have been planned and executed better so that we wouldn't have our mise en scene ruined by someones legs who clearly wasn't meant to be in the shot. However, once again the sound is ruined by background noise when our actual plan was to get just the noise of the door opening as the effect would have been greater as this preliminary was meant to be mystical as it's about a fortune teller.

This close up is much better as the framing was well planned so that our main characters legs were at the sides so that the doll could fall in pieces in between her legs which makes it very professional. Also everything is in focus which was our intent. The sound is extremely good as we hear everything drop (especially the scissors) so that when we edited this we made sure there was emphasized music when the scissors dropped. We also sped up this shot and added a red tint to make it seem more dark and strange.

8) Audience feedback and comments.

The words in the largest sized text are those that were used most. As you can see "good" and "girls" were used most "girls"reflects our sequence the best as it was aimed at girls and mainly to do with girls when filming . Great positive feedback for our thriller.

This is what some people thought of our title sequence:
We were really happy with this feedback as there is not much suggested on which we could improve on which reveals to us that our thriller title sequence was very successful. It was great that we managed to interview a girl as that was our target audience however, the male feedback was very useful as well.
